The street maintenance activities include maintaining street surfaces and right of ways including: pothole repair, seal coating, alley maintenance, snow removal, storm drainage, boulevard trees, and street signage.

Garbage 

Garbage Collection Days and Routes

  • Monday's Route: East of Egan Avenue and North of NE 2nd Street
  • Tuesday's Route: East of Egan Avenue and South of NE 2nd Street
  • Thursday's Route: West of Egan Avenue and North of NW 2nd Street
  • Friday's Route: West of Egan Avenue and South of NW 2nd Street

Garbage must be placed at your collection point by 7:00 a.m.

Recyclables and yard waste may not be placed in household garbage.

Yard Waste Site

The yard waste site is located on 456th Ave just North of the Waste Water Treatment Plant and is open year round, 24 hours a day.

Residents can dispose of grass clippings, sticks, branches, leaves, Christmas trees, and pumpkins.

This is for residential disposal only, no businesses are allowed.

Restricted Use Site (Landfill)

The restricted use site is located at 23241 446th Avenue which is 2 miles west of Junius and 1/2 mile north on the west side of the road.

The restricted use site is permitted through the SD Department of Environment and Natural Resources and accepts construction debris and old furniture.  Unacceptable items include, but are not limited to, metals, concrete, recyclables, yard waste, appliances, and household garbage.

Cost:

  1.  $15.00 if hauled by pickup
  2.  $10.00/cubic yard if hauled by other means 
  3. Tires are accepted based on size
    1. $1.50 for each passenger car tire
    2. $2.50 for each light truck tire
    3. $6.50 for each semi-truck tire
    4. $10.50 for each 15.5 tractor tire
    5. $15.50 for each 16.9 tractor tire
    6. $20.50 for each 18.4 tractor tire

Hours of operation are as follows:

  • Summer Hours (April-October): Mon. - Thurs. 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. & Fri. & Sat. 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Winter Hours (November-March): Open on a 'by appointment only' basis. Please call 605-256-7515 to make arrangements.

Recycling

Recycling Collection Days and Routes

Recycling collection days for city garbage collection customers is as follows:

  • East of Egan Avenue collection is the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.
  • West of Egan Avenue collection is the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.
  • There is no recycling collected on the 5th Wednesday of each month.

Recyclables must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m.

City Projects - September 2017

City Engineers would like to make the citizens of Madison aware of some scheduled work starting Monday, September 18th that will impact traffic. Mosquito Surveillance Program

A pool of mosquitoes collected on August 16th tested positive for the virus. It is important to know that a mosquito tested positive for carrying of the virus, no human cases have been verified in Lake County. Click for more information.
